Kellie Scheiby

Born in a land both fair and great, in the early 70’s my roots will always be in Africa. There's something profoundly grounding about knowing where your roots lie—especially when they’re intertwined with the soul of a continent like Africa. Its landscapes, rhythms, and resilience seem to imprint themselves deeply. Africa is in my blood, its raw beauty, diversity and vastness evoke such a rich, nostalgic sense of belonging and reverence for the land that shaped me. Born in Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe

My Family left Rhodesia in the 80’s and headed down south to new beginnings in Durban, South Africa where I grew up and where my husband and I have gone on to raise our family.

Our family holidays are a particular highlight of my childhood memories, they were always full of exploration and have always been out in nature, whether hiking the altitudes of the Drakensberg, out in the wilds of the bush and occasionally soaking up the sun on the beaches or exploring life underwater.

Childhood memories that have shaped and influenced my life go back to spending a lot of time with my Gran who is herself creative and artistic. We spent many hours drawing and painting together and making mud pies in the garden. It was only in my 1st year of my Interior Design Diploma, sitting in a technical drawing class, drafting the interior space of our 1st assignment, that I realised that design was a calling when a memory of sitting with gran drawing our dream house plans came to mind… something id forgotten (filed in my mind)

Travel is my other passion and again has its roots in my later childhood where, as a member of a nature and conservation group of teens – JACANA (Junior Association for Conservation and Nature Awareness) we spent many hours out in nature camping, hiking, exploring together and learning all about our beautiful country, its fauna and flora.

Design, travel and family are my life - the corelation, the connection between two or more things – no design commission is the same, each is unique and so too is the natural world, travel and each member of the family. Travelling to new and interesting places, seen differently and uniquely through the eyes of each family member inspires me in design and provides the inspiration to create spaces that encompass the colours, textures, balance and connection that surround us.

A trip to Italy another poignant moment in my life where travel and design merged into an inspirational memory that has shaped me.

In 2001  a friend and  I travelled to Italy, to attend the Salone del Mobile - Milan Design Week, a furniture fair held annually in Milan, the largest trade-fair of its kind in the world with a week before the fair roaming the cobbled walkways, squares and cathedrals of Florence, my school and college art history classes coming to life all around me. A privilege and defining moment of my life.

Leather a new passion in a new season of my life – tactile, sensual, hand crafted from concept to completion, each commission individual and unique. The vision - to combine travel, design and leather crafting bespoke one-off authentic pieces for the discerning client who has an appreciation for exclusivity and fine design.
